A New Batch of 'Doctor Parnassus' Character Posters

9 hours ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

After nearly two years, we'll finally get to see Heath Ledger's final performance in Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on December 25th. To fill the role left incomplete following Ledger's death, Gilliam hired - as you know by now - Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law, this giving Law two films opening on the same day (along with Sherlock Holmes).

There's a new set of Korean posters for Parnassus from Imp Awards, and while I would think Gilliam's films in general play better in Europe than they do here, I don't know if that would hold true in Asian countries. Incidentally, the movie's already made $12 million in Europe, about half of that in Italy. But clearly, we're not seeing a slew of character posters in the Us, so this might be a much bigger deal in South Korea.

In addition to Ledger and his three replacements, »

Johnny Depp enters the revolving door of The Tourist

7 November 2009 4:05 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

If you follow the production of films you will soon become aware that many changes often take place on the journey from script to celluloid.

But even by those standards, The Tourist has gone through a surprising number of cast and crew members coming and going.

The latest to arrive through the project's revolving door is Johnny Depp, who is now in talks to play the lead role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Initially, Bharat Nalluri was on board to direct the thriller, with Tom Cruise in the lead. Charlize Theron was set to co-star.

But then Cruise left and Sam Worthington was brought in as a replacement.

After that, Charlize Theron departed and in came Angelina Jolie. Bharat Nalluri dropped out and the studio brought in German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.

Following that, Sam Worthington dropped out and von Donnersmarck moved on. Alfonso Cuaron is now heading for the director's chair. »

Jamie Campbell Bower Compares His Twilight and Harry Potter Experiences

7 November 2009 2:07 PM, PST | movies.about.com | See recent movies.about.com news »

Name the two biggest film franchises currently in production. Now name one actor who's in both. Jamie Campbell Bower (best known for his role alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd) is fortunate enough to be a supporting player in the second Twilight movie, New Moon, and in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. Bower plays Caius, a member of the Volturi, in New Moon, a role he'll reprise if/when the final Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, is made into a movie. And in Harry Potter #7 and #8 Campbell Bower portrays Gellert Grindelwald, a character who makes his first appearance in the series as the Harry Potter franchise winds to a close.

"He's an old friend of Dumbledore's, a possible lover," offered Campbell Bower at the La press day for New Moon.

Alfonso Cuaron to Direct The Tourist Starring Johnny Depp

6 November 2009 2:16 PM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Although Y tu mamá también was Alfonso Cuaron's breakout film in terms of proving his talent and putting him on Hollywood's radar, it was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men that made him an instant favourite among fantasy and sci-fi fans. Of course, Children of Men was released back in 2006, and Cuaron hasn't really done much since then outside of producing. Now this week it looks like his next directorial gig may finally be falling into place, picking up the pieces of a potentially high-profile project that has gone through multiple changes to cast and crew. If all goes according to plan Cuaron will direct The Tourist, a remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer, about an American vacationer in France who is unwittingly used as a decoy for a French spy. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) had previously been attached, »

Producer talks The Lone Ranger and Pirates of the Caribbean 4

6 November 2009 5:09 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that Disney is moving forward with its planned movie based on The Lone Ranger, with Johnny Depp cast as native American sidekick Tonto.

Bruckheimer said they were now aiming for a 2012 release. Mike Newell - whose credits include Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - is attached to direct the feature.

Bruckheimer told Sci-Fi Wire that Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio had worked with other writers and Johnny Depp on The Lone Ranger to create "something that has a kind of true-to-the-western [feel], but adding other additional elements like we did with Pirates so it won't be just a straight-ahead western."

As for the casting of the Ranger, he said: "We're still creating a pretty wide net and figuring it out. It comes down to who »

De Niro to the 7th? (Oscar's Male Hierarchy)

6 November 2009 3:46 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Have you been buying the minor huzz (hype+buzz) 'Robert De Niro's 7th Oscar nomination' for the holiday film Everybody's Fine? My friend txt critic saw it last night and sent the following note by phone...

it's, well, fine. most definitely a drama (despite the trailer) and conceptually a cross between About Schmidt and Four Christmases. nice, sweet and somewhat forgettable.

might, Might be a nomination for DeNiro, but i wouldn't bet on it.I dunno. I wasn't betting on it either but Best Actor sure seems vacant this year with only Colin Firth (A Single Man) and George Clooney (Up in the Air) catching any sort of real fire. As I've been saying for months, Fox Searchlight shouldn't have even hesitated to position Crazy Heart for a 2009 release. Jeff Bridges would have a clear shot at the career trophy given the field (if -- and it's always »

'Twilight' star Jamie Campbell Bower wants Tim Burton to direct 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn'

5 November 2009 8:47 PM, PST | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

Jamie Campbell Bower, who portrays Caius in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has not, it seems, forgotten the source of his big break in the film industry. You might remember him as Anthony in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, and, if you do, you'll know that it was director Tim Burton (as well as the minor detail of phenomenal castmates like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter) that ushered in Bower's career as a film star. Since then, of course, Bower has continued to make a name for himself with roles in films like RocknRolla (by Guy Ritchie) and Winter In Wartime. He's also been cast as the elusive Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part I and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II. Yet, when MTV interviewer Eric Ditzian asked Bower who he'd pick as director of the not-yet-officially-greenlit The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (which, »

Eek! A First Look at the New Freddy Krueger Toys

5 November 2009 5:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Horror fans will be slipping back into a new Nightmare on Elm Street on April 30th, 2010, but we're already being teased with new Freddy Krueger toys, thanks to Entertainment Earth and Mezco Toyz. You can buy a little Freddy of your own in plastic or vinyl next April just in time for Jackie Earle Haley's debut as the mutilated monster who haunts our dreams.

The first question I had when I saw the plastic toy was, why does he look like those little dolls with dried apple heads that are sold at craft fairs by sweet grandmas? But thanks to a wily blogger over at Albotas and the wonders of Photoshop, you can see that Earle Haley's Freddy definitely looks more like this toy than Robert Englund's Freddy.

I'm not sure which I prefer -- the menacing creep with a big smile or the flat-faced, expressionless killer. An »

Has 'Prince of Persia' Nailed What It Means to be a Video Game Adaptation?

Jake Gyllenhaal puts on his sexy face in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Photo: Walt Disney Pictures I'm not much of a gamer, and that may in fact be an understatement considering in the last few years the only games I have played and finished are "Gears of War," "Burnout," "Uncharted," "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" and just a couple of days ago "Uncharted 2." I don't know where that places me in the gamer revolution, but considering that's about 6 years of gaming outside of playing a little "Tiger Woods," "NBA Street" and "Hot Shots Golf" I would say I am on the outside looking in. However, I'd like to think I know enough to at least open up a discussion concerning the growing trend of adapting video games into feature films, primarily based on the recently released trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a film »

Johnny Depp in talks to replace Sam Worthington in ‘The Tourist’

5 November 2009 9:06 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

The large round of musical chairs for the The Tourist continues.

Last month we reported that Angelina Jolie replaced Charlize Theron on the American remake of French film Anthony Zimmer and now it seems like Johnny Depp is in talks to replace Australian actor Sam Worthington. The role originally had Tom Cruise slated to star.

Depp would play an American tourist drawn into a “web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover.”

The 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer was directed by Jérôme Salle. It starred the lovely Sophie Marceau and Yvan Attal.

Jolie remains on the project, however, along with Worthington, original director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck has left the project.  Children of Men director Alfonso Cuaron still in talks to replace him.

The Tourist is still on schedule to begin production in February.

Johnny Depp Replacing Sam Worthington In ‘The Tourist?’

5 November 2009 7:38 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

When does the movie business ever go as planned? Rarely, it seems, as evidenced by the change-ups with the upcoming thriller The Tourist, the remake of the 2005 French film, Anthony Zimmer.

We recently reported that Angelina Jolie had replaced Charlize Theron in the movie, with Jolie joining the already-cast Sam Worthington (who originally replaced Tom Cruise). Then a week later came news that after previously attached director Bharat Nalluri had stepped away from the project, The Lives of Other director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck was being eyed to helm the film instead.

All seemed to be in place and The Tourist was set for an early 2010 shooting start. However, although the latter is still true, there appears to Still be major change-ups happening, as not only is yet another new director being looked at to now replace Donnersmarck, but Worthington may be getting replaced by Johnny Depp!
