I love salt, all types of salt really – Sea salt, table salt, rock salt and Evelyn Salt. Not familiar with that last one? She’s next summer’s female action spy played the ever so pouty-lipped Angelina Jolie. At one point, Tom Cruise was rumored to be attached to the Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector) directed secret double agent yarn but ultimately, Noyce and company decided to go with a more feminine touch. Good move guys!
Jolie has proven time and again that she is the go-to woman in Hollywood for lead female action roles. Say what you want about the Tomb Raider movie, but as Lara Croft there can be no other woman playing the part. Same goes for her roles in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and last summer’s Wanted. In Salt, she appears to be just as convincing while playing a wrongly accused woman on the run. »

I’m sure Columbia didn’t intend for anyone to see the first trailer for Angelina Jolie’s Salt in Russia (apart from the Russians obviously) but that’s what’s happened. From the trailer it looks like Jolie has returned to the same action form we saw from her in Tomb Raider and Wanted, although as it is [...] »

One of the things I've never quite understood about videogames turned movies is how you're supposed to play them.
But I miss Jake Gyllenhaal so here he is all acrobatic like in The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
More Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Info
I haven't yet read any internet opinions about this new trailer, so haven't a clue what the consensus is but if it's hugely negative, I'm here to say that that's just silly. This looks exactly like the other video games turned movies (Tomb Raider) or movies that seem like they're based on video games even when they're not (The Mummy... or wait, was that?). They're all marketed in this same bombastic way with loud music, "fun" bits and CGI heavy promises of spectacle. Though I can't remember offhand if most trailers for films of this genre spend this much time describing »

Henry Jaglom, the iconic writer/director whose films include: Eating, Someone To Love, New Years Day, Hollywood Dreams, and most recently Irene in Time, was kind enough to sit down with me and talk about his life, his art and his new play Just 45 Minutes From Broadway. Joining us was his muse, and very talented actress, Tanna Frederick who stars in Irene in Time, Hollywood Dreams and currently in Henry's new play. I can't think of anyone who makes films like Henry does. He is an artist in the true sense of the word. His lead characters are often women, and I'm not talking Lara Croft (Tomb Raider), but real women who share their deepest thoughts and feelings. Henry told me he gets his understanding of women from his mother. She allowed him to explore... »

Back in the summer of 2008 Screen Rant reported on the fact that John McClane himself, Bruce Willis had attached himself to star in the still up and coming video game adaptation, Kane & Lynch. In case you’re not familiar with it, the game is about a former mercenary (Kane) and a psychopath (Lynch) forced to “work” together. Fast forward (or “flash forward,” to give a hat tip to ABC’s great new TV show) more than a year and we have solid confirmation of Willis’ casting from the producers of Kane & Lynch themselves.
Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter recently spoke to the guys over at Collider while at the 2009 Scream Awards where, amongst other video game adaptations, they spoke a little about Kane & Lynch. On top of letting us know about a tentative production start date of early 2010 (Spring or early Summer at the latest), they also confirmed Willis’ casting with a smooth and simple, »

It’s been a while since we heard anything on the videogame movie “Kane & Lynch” (over a year now, in fact), but according to producer Adrian Askarieh, Bruce Willis has indeed signed on to play Kane, with casting for the pivotal Lynch character still in the works. Also, they’ve nailed down a director in former second unit man Simon Crane, who has done work on “Troy” and “Tomb Raider”. According to Askarieh, it was easy to get Willis, since the “Die Hard” star called the “Kane & Lynch” script written by Kyle Ward (who is also penning “Hitman 2″) one of the best action scripts he’s ever read. Major kudos, considering that, well, Willis once read the script for “Die Hard”, and some consider that the best action movie ever made. For the gamers out there, the movie won’t exactly follow the game, but will maintain the basic premise. »

With February set to be the start of production on the upcoming Spyglass Entertainment thriller The Tourist, the studio is working on getting all the loose ends tied up.
Tom Cruise was originally considered to star in the film, but opted to go with Fox’s Knight and Day instead. In his place, Spyglass is planning on having Angelina Jolie play the film’s lead. Jolie, who has several other offers on the table, is ready to make The Tourist her next project, on the condition that the right director is found.
Spyglass has been looking, and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is their top choice to take on the film. No official negotiations have been worked out yet, but if von Donnersmarck agrees to making The Tourist the film will remain on track to be released in 2011.

I haven't had much reason to look forward to the upcoming remake of Charles Bronson's The Mechanic. Sure, having Jason Statham in the lead role as a weary hit man seems like an easy sell, but you have to temper that with the fact that Simon West (Con-Air, Tomb Raider) is directing. I had relegated the project in my mind as yet another schlocky action fest that Statham was simply too good for---that is, until we learned that Ben Foster and Donald Sutherland will be joining the film. Foster will play an apprentice to Statham's character, and Sutherland will portray Statham's handler and Foster's father. If Foster can bring even half of the intensity he's portrayed in 3:10 to Yuma and (to a lesser extent) Alpha Dog, it'll make this film worth a look for me. Foster also proved he can hold his own against the towering on screen »

Charlize Theron as an Interpol babe looking to use Sam Worthington to ambush a criminal might have been interesting, but Angelina Jolie in the same role just makes sense. It is, after all, one of those sly, seductive, badass roles that Jolie seems to have cornered in recent years, with turns in “Wanted”, the “Tomb Raider” movies, and the upcoming “Salt”. Her latest may be replacing Theron on the thriller “The Tourist”, though no one has confirmed Theron’s departure or Jolie’s interest as yet. A remake of the French thriller “Anthony Zimmer” from 2005, “The Tourist” was originally supposed to star Tom Cruise as an American tourist who is thrust into Interpol’s manhunt for a wanted criminal. The role has since gone to Hollywood “It” boy Sam Worthington. Theron would have played the Interpol cop chasing the criminal and who decides to use the tourist to do it. »

Angelina Jolie is the latest star tipped to join an upcoming remake of cult 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer.
Both Charlize Theron and Tom Cruise were signed to star in the project, to be retitled The Tourist, which tells the story of a female agent on the hunt for an elusive ex-boyfriend, who becomes a wanted man.
Cruise pulled out of the film to star in Wichita with Cameron Diaz, and was replaced by Sam Worthington.
Tomb Raider star Jolie is the latest star to enter the film's revolving door and is in negotiations to fill in for original leading lady Theron after she dropped out. »

Squint a little while looking at the original Uncharted, and you’ll see it for what it really was: Tomb Raider, minus two boobs, plus better writing. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a more polished, expansive, and overall satisfying experience. The game opens with Nathan Drake, the male version of Lara Croft, unshaven and drinking alone in a bar. (This is movie-speak for “Help me, I’m in an emotional tailspin.”) A Brit named Karl arrives, along with a raven-haired woman named Chloe, and they manage to convince Drake to help them steal an item from a Turkish museum that ... »

Hello and welcome to the start of your week Boxwishers. Outside things are depressingly wet and grey (the weather almost reflecting that ‘back-to-work Monday feeling) and likewise things aren’t seriously sunny on the new DVD front. We’ve going quite low-key and turning our back on traditional Hollywood with John Woo’s Chinese epic Red Cliff and Polish war film Katyn, however for those still hungry for a little touch of Tinseltown we’ve got Angelina Jolie perfecting her English accent in action adventure Lara Croft – Tomb Raider, new to Blu-Ray. It’s not the most bumper pack of treats we’ve presented you with, and we’re expecting a lot more of summer’s heavy-hitters to debut on DVD in time for Christmas, but until then, feast on these film favourites with our top tips on enjoying the movie experience once the credits have rolled. »

Will a video game movie based on a game with no characters or storyline whatsoever be more successful than a Max Payne or Tomb Raider? Fox and EA are going to give it a shot and find out, as Variety reports that they are setting up Spore as a feature film. Chris Wedge is attached to direct, with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland writing the screenplay.
Spore is a colorful, family friendly game that allows you to build a variety of fanciful creatures. But perhaps most notably, it allows you to evolve them. Your creatures start out as microscopic organisms, develops into a complex animal, and becomes a social and intelligent creature. You help guide its society from a primitive stage all the way to space travel. It's a very organic game not only in its single-player conception, but because it allows you to share your creatures and your worlds with other gamers, »

Erin Brockovich has been voted the greatest movie heroine of all time.
The single mum lawyer, played by Julia Roberts in the 2000 drama based on a real-life story, fights to gain compensation for victims of contaminated drinking water - and Brockovich has come out as moviegoers' favourite fighting woman.
FBI agent Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster in The Silence Of The Lambs, came in second place, with Angelina Jolie's sexy fighter Lara Croft in Tomb Raider voted third.
In fourth place was Ellen Ripley in Alien, portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, while Linda Hamilton's character Sarah Connor in The Terminator rounded out the top five, in a survey of 3,000 Brits. »

Some early casting news has come out regarding the re-imagining of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. Danielle Harris will be playing the part of Barbara in the reanimated (Yeah, that was a cheap joke, but I had to go for it) CGI film Night of the Living Dead: Origins. News came right from Harris herself via her Twitter page, “All you’re good luck wishes worked! Guess who’s gonna be Barbara?!”.
Harris is certainly no stranger to the horror genre. She played prey to Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 and is set to appear in the vampire film Stake Land coming out next year. With those kinds of credentials, I’m sure she’s well prepared to face the walking dead, even if they are animated this time around.
Hearing that Harris has been cast certainly leaves me anxious to find out who »

This just in! Charlize Theron wouldn’t mind playing Catwoman in the sequel to the second highest grossing film of all time, The Dark Knight. Well that entire last sentence would qualify for a big, fat “Duh!” Can you tell me one person that wouldn’t say “Yes” to star in a billion dollar franchise if asked? Megan Fox was recently rumored to be playing the feminine milk-drinking feline villain a few weeks ago but Warner Bros. execs were quick to shoot that down. It’s not a direct quote but I think the press release said something like, “Um, Hell No!”
During an Stv interview that probably only consisted of some guy with a mini-voice recorder stalking her as she shopped for groceries, Theron said this:
“It’s news to me, but that’s kick-ass news. I like that… I think that what has happened to that franchise is amazing, »

I've always wanted Project Runway, which wields the word "costumey" around in the same dread way that American Idol invokes "broadway", to embrace costume design and hold a movie themed episode. Now that they're located in La, they finally came through for me.
The designers at a real soundstage, hearing the challenge. For the record I'm:
rooting for CarolHannah, drooling on Logan and expecting a Christopher win.
If you've seen the show, you'll know that Heidi Klum always kicks things off by wrapping that brilliant accent around a happy preview of the episode's content. To hear her chirpily declare "movie making!" before the Add editing team cut to the challenge was bliss in 4 syllables. Unfortunately many of the costumes weren't bliss in 4 seconds.
The contestants had to fight over the following five genres (only two people to a genre)

This Megan Fox/Angelina Jolie Barbarella bullplop is out of control. A day doesn’t go by where I don’t see a report about some nameless source speaking on behalf of the two gorgeous actresses’ supposed feud regarding a remake of the ’60s fantasy classic Barbarella.
The latest news come from a “source” who spoke to MSN regarding the much maligned production. “This will be the first time Ange and Megan have ever faced off for the same role,” the bullshitter said.
“Ange is really feeling the pressure. Ange knows that to win roles she has to look youthful.”
Since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took moviegoers hostage for $10.50 a pop, comparisons between the two gossip magnets have been raging like a California wildfire. Sensational headlines range from “Is Megan the new Angelina? They both have black hair!” to “Megan takes over for Tomb Raider since old Angelina is an old, »

Get ready all you World War Z and general zombie fans Night of the Living Dead is coming back to life. This time around they’ll crawl from their graves not only in CG but also in 3D. The new film, entitled Night of the Living Dead: Origins will be a “re-imaging” of the original, focusing more on the backstory of the characters. Don’t worry, I’m sure there will still be plenty of zombie brain-eating goodness.
While the film will make use of current 3D technology, there is also some interesting new tech being used on this production:
“…a real-time effects system, known as ‘The Beast’, which allows filmmakers the ability to direct CG performances the same way they would direct real live actors. The aim of the process is to make tennis balls on a stick representing real people or monsters a thing of the past »

Hollywood owes me a new TV. They made me break my new 50″ plasma and I’m mad as heck about it. How did this happen and why? I’m glad you asked. Here’s the story:
It’s well after midnight. I’m flipping channels trying to find something that isn’t an infomercial for the Sham-wow, Slap Chop, Snuggie or Extenze (I own two of those items and let’s just say my wife is warm and happy). I settle on a re-run of Head of the Class, the one with Billy Connolly not Howard Hesseman, because it reminds me of Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day. All is right in the world until all of a sudden, a commercial starts up for a new movie, Night of the Living Dead: Origins. Hot dang! I’m pumped and the commercial cranks up; it’s bright, excessively loud and the »
