Plot: A rogue group of rock and roll deejays are on the high seas outside of England keeping music alive. This is the story based in some fact of a “pirate radio” boat that inspired 1960s Britain.
Who’S It For? Do you like music? More specifically, the rock and roll that truly mattered? Then you’ll love this. Beyond that though, this film is filled with a great cast of characters that provide enough laughs for any adult to enjoy.
Expectations: This is the director who wrote Notting Hill and directed Love Actually … but romance isn’t center stage. So I was hopeful, but not expecting much.

A psychological, heart-wrenching love story starring Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) as Charles Darwin, the film is based on “Annie’s Box,” a biography penned by Darwin’s great-great-grandson Randal Keynes using personal letters and diaries of the Darwin family. We take a unique and inside look at Darwin, his family and his love for his deeply religious wife, played by Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Requiem for a Dream), as, torn between faith and science, Darwin struggles to finish his legendary book “On the Origin of Species,” which goes on to become the foundation for evolutionary biology.

Newmarket Will Stage Creation

Creation, the Charles Darwin biopic starring A Beautiful Mind stars Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly, has been in release limbo for a while due to the fact that no distributor — for whatever reason — wanted to touch it. Directed by The Core helmer Jon Amiel, Creation stars Bettany and Connelly as Darwin and wife Emma in a movie that met bland to negative reactions from the Toronto International Film Festival.
Now, according to Variety, Newmarket Films, the distributor of Passion of the Christ, has picked up the film and slotted it for a December release. Thus, sooner rather than later we’ll be able to see if the film, scripted by John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) is any good.

Newmarket Films announced today that it has acquired U.S. rights to director Jon Amiel's Creation , a film which focuses on Charles Darwin and his family as he struggles to finish his legendary book "On The Origin of Species," which went on to become the foundation for evolutionary biology. Principal photography began on July 13th on Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Inception” being directed by Christopher Nolan. Filming got underway in England, with future locations spanning three continents. Despite a Best Picture nomination and a respectable $93 million domestic gross, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World isn't exactly one of those movies from earlier this decade that legions of audiences are dying to revisit. And yet, if the AP has their story right, Russell Crowe is considering revisiting sea captain Jack Aubrey in another movie based one of the 20 books in the Master and Commander series. Russell Crowe is in early negotiations to reprise his role as Jack Aubrey, the British captain in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Crowe has never been a part of a movie sequel.
The 2003 movie was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won two (cinematography and sound effects editing). It was released the same year as The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which swept all 11 of its nominations leaving only two remaining awards for the Crowe starrer. It earned $212 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
The first movie was based on several books from the 20-novel series written by Patrick O’Brian based on adventures at sea during the Napoleonic Wars. A script has been written for another film based on the eleventh book “The Reverse of the Medal.” Discussions are taking place to acquire the rights from the owner (O’Brian died in 2000).

Currently one of my top 10 movies, Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World is a film that was set up perfectly for a sequel to be made quickly. Despite mostly solid reviews, a pair of Oscars and a worldwide box-office gross of $212 million, the sequel I wanted to see didn’t come to be.
There have been rumblings of work towards a sequel for quite some time now and this weekend, we may have even more movement on that front.
According to Crowe, yesterday he revealed that there’s a written script for a sequel based on The Reverse of the Medal, Patrick O’Brian’s eleventh book of the Master and Commander series and that they’ve begun early discussions for the project.

According to the Associated Press, Russell Crowe is in the early stages of negotiations to reprise the role of Jack Aubrey as a British sea captain in a new movie version from the "Master and Commander" series of novels.
Crowe told the AP on Friday that a script based mostly on the eleventh novel of Patrick O'Brian's 20-novel series, "The Reverse of the Medal", had been written, but that discussions were at a very early stage.
"There's still a long way to go," Crowe told AP at a cricket match between England and Australia in London. He said talks had been taking place with the owner of the rights to the novels.
Crowe gave no indication of when filming could start but said it was one of a number of projects he is considering.

In a discussion of recent underrated films go - and granted, my definition of recent may differ from yours - I would still bring up Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. I might be the only person who believes a movie that earned ten Oscar nominations and over $200 million around the world is underrated, I realize, but honestly, did you know it made that much and was so heavily nominated?
Russell Crowe wants another Master and Commander movie, and in theory, I'm all for it. Crowe tells the AP (via USA Today) "there's still a long way to go" in adapting the Patrick O'Brian book The Reverse of the Medal into a film. O'Brian wrote over 20 novels based on Crowe's character, Capt. Jack Aubrey and Paul Bettany's low-key doctor, Stephen Maturin. At issue is acquiring the film rights to the novel.

It seems that Russell Crowe might be hitting the high seas once again. According to the Associated Press, Crowe has entered into early negotiations to star in sequel to Master and Commander: The Far Side Of The World.
Crowe revealed that there is a script already written, largely based off of the 11th novel in the 20-book series, The Reverse of the Medal, but it's too early to tell if the deal will come together or not.
The Reverse of the Medal sees Crowe's Captain Jack Aubrey sailing into the Carribbean with his Hms Surprise ship, where he discovers his illegitimate son, Samuel Panda, now a Catholic priest.
The first Master and Commander: The Far Side Of The World film took material from several of the books, written by Patrick O'Brian, so it isn't clear if this is the storyline the film will be centered on.

A look into "Creation" has been shared through the film's newly-released promo trailer. Less than two minutes long, the trailer is debuted by The Telegraph and explores Charles Darwin's struggle between faith and reason. It gives out the first look at Paul Bettany as Charles, Jennifer Connelly as his wife, Emma, and Toby Jones as Thomas Huxley among others.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is moving full steam ahead with the tapping of Michael Petroni. The screenwriter has been picked up to pen the next installment of "Narnia" series and to take over Richard Lagravanese, who wrote the recent draft for the C.S. Lewis novel's adaptation.
Reportedly, Petroni was chosen for the job because Fox 2000 were impressed with his works for the studio, a rewrite of the Kevin Lima-directed "Afterlife" and of the Julia Roberts-starrer "Daniel Isn't Talking". Joining "Dawn Treader" team, he will be re-teamed with Mark Johnson for whom he adapted the Australian novel "The Long Green Shore".

The 20th Century Fox have stepped in to co-finance "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", Variety reported. The news came out weeks after Disney walked away from their partnership with Walden Media in co-financing and co-producing the third installment of the "Chronicles of Narnia" series.
Fox has been said to be the most likely partner since the studio have marketed and distributed Walden movies under its Fox Walden label. Furthermore, it is noted that both Fox and Walden, which will split the film's production and P&A costs, are still working out the approval of final script as well as the shooting budget, which are reportedly much lower than the $225 million budget of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian".
Concerning "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" itself, this next "Narnia" movie eyes to start its production at the end of summer for a Christmas 2010 release. »
