You may recall just a few days back we did a story about how the soon to published novel, Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, was already being looked at as a possible film adaptation. Well, either someone out there moved very quickly on ripping the project off, or there’s a few people in Hollywood who think alike...

Variety reports this morning that Elton John’s Rocket Pictures is moving on Pride & Predators, a take-off of the Jane Austen novel in which an alien space craft crashes during the midst of the period drama, butchering the leads and giving those remaining alive a whole set of unforeseen issues to be emo about.

They’re hoping to start shooting the film in London later this year, with John serving as an executive producer on it. Will Clark, who co-wrote the script with Andrew Kemble and John Pape, will be in the director’s chair. »

Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, is being reworked into two new horror flicks. Author Seth Grahame-Smith, who penned the book How to Survive a Horror Movie, is behind Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Elton John's Rocket Pictures is developing Pride and Predator. The Grahame-Smith novel, which hasn’t yet been published, follows Elizabeth Bennet and her four sisters becoming zombie slayers. They are taught how to fight like Japanese ninjas by Mr Darcy. According to the latest issue of Production Weekly, Natalie Portman is in talks to star. Pride and Predator veers from the traditional period costume drama when an alien crash lands and begins to butcher the mannered protagonist, who suddenly have more than marriage and inheritance to worry about. The trades say Will Clark will direct Predator. Clark, who directed the award-winning short The Amazing Trousers, wrote the script with Andrew Kemble and John Pape. »

What do Jane Austen, Elton John and a murderous alien have in common? Pride And Predator, one of the oddest projects we’ve heard of lately, which Variety just reported on.

In the movie, which William Felix Clark will direct, a traditional period drama in the Austen mode is invaded by a crash-landed extraterrestrial that begins killing off the upper-class protagonists. “It felt like a fresh and funny way to blow apart the done-to-death Jane Austen genre by literally dropping this alien into the middle of a costume drama, where he stalks and slashes to horrific effect,” David Furnish, who’ll produce with Rocket Pictures partner Steve Hamilton Shaw, tells the trade; John, also part of the Rocket team, will executive-produce and, needless to say, supervise the music. Clark, who helmed the award-winning Gothic comedy short The Amazing Trousers (pictured; see the trailer below), makes his feature debut with Pride, »
